Who We Are
A closer look at the people and philosophies behind HAX Training

Who We Are
Hammer & Axe started in 2020 with a pretty simple idea: take what we had learned through years in the sport and pass it on to other runners trying to improve.
At the time, co-founders Drew, Reed, and Connor were fully immersed in training and racing at a professional level. Along the way, they had accumulated not just knowledge from coaches and experience, but also lessons learned the hard way through mistakes, setbacks, injuries, and pure trial-and-error.
As they started working with athletes, they realized coaching was about far more than writing a training plan.
A lot of runners don’t struggle because they lack motivation. If anything, most are trying too hard. They’re overwhelmed by information, second-guessing themselves, or unsure how to structure training in a way that actually supports consistent, long-term improvement.
Athletes wanted to learn a lot more than just what workouts to do:
How much mileage is right for me?
What shoes should I train in?
How can I break my injury cycle?
How do I improve my finishing kick?
What should I eat before workouts or races?
How do I manage pre-race nerves?
How do I fuel properly for a marathon?
Those are the kinds of things that aren’t always easy to figure out from a generic training plan or a quick online search.
Hammer & Axe has always been about forming a genuine partnership with each athlete to support and guide their journey as best we can. We strive to help runners apply high-level training principles to their own lives, goals, schedules, and experience levels.
Over the years, our coaching staff has grown with people who share that same philosophy: helping athletes pursue their loftiest goals through effective training and meaningful relationships.
We thought this would be a good opportunity to reintroduce the team all in one place.
Whether you’re a high school athlete looking for guidance this summer, someone training for a first marathon, or a runner trying to balance training with a busy life, we hope this gives you a better sense of who we are and how we approach coaching.
