What it takes to train 140+ miles/week
Charlie Lawrence on training, fueling, recovery and the 1 percents that matter

Every serious runner does drills, strength training, or both. But few know if those things are actually making a difference. Stryd changes that.
The wearable sensor measures critical form metrics with unparalleled precision — including leg spring stiffness, impact loading rate, ground contact time, and more — showing trends across every run. So when you do your strides, plyos, and form work, you can see whether your mechanics are actually improving your key metrics over weeks and months. No more guessing if the routine is paying off. The data shows it.
Training to do what’s never been done
Most days, you’ll find Charlie Lawrence doing the same thing. The same breakfast before training. The same carb mix in his bottles, the same gels in his pockets on runs, and the same post-run smoothie. When he’s not out running, he’s either fueling, recovering, or chasing the “1 percents” – sauna, massage, compression boots, red light glasses…you name it, he’s done it.
Why so meticulous?
Because he's trying to become one of the best ultra-distance runners in the world.
He's already the world-record holder over the 50-mile distance (averaging 5:46 per mile) and the American record holder in the 100K (5:55/mile). But with ambitious goals and a competitive drive he’s had since he was young, he's hungry for more.
Now, that level of precision certainly isn't for everyone. It’s important to remember that Charlie is a professional, and that running is his full-time thing. For most runners, trying to optimize every single detail of training would only add unnecessary stress. But for Charlie, routine creates confidence. Knowing he's maximizing his training, chasing the one-percent improvements, and staying consistent allows him to focus on what matters most: fueling the work, putting in the miles (sometimes 150 a week!), and recovering well enough to stay healthy.
