New Coaches Are Joining The Team!

Introducing Emily Durgin and Jacob Hunter, the newest coaches on Hammer & Axe. Available now to work with all runners in their journeys to reach their full potential.

Emily Durgin

Emily’s running journey is one of consistent success as a result of commitment and prioritizing a positive relationship with her running as much as possible. An eternal optimist, Emily goes through life with a smile on her face, something that’s served her well whether she’s battling injuries or breaking American records. After a decorated track career, Emily is now established as one of the top road racers in the U.S., having won a U.S. title and placed in the top 10 at multiple Olympic Trials races.

As a coach, Emily is eager to work with athletes who share a love for life and running, whether they be a first-time 5K runner or a seasoned marathoner.

Fun Fact: Grew up in Maine and loves all winter sports!

What do you hope other runners can gain from being coached by you?

Emily: “I hope to share the pure joy that running can bring to your life, and help you find balance between everyday life, training, and racing. I can’t wait to help you reach the next level in your running journey, and show you how quickly that next PR can come!”

Jacob Hunter

Jacob is a runner and a coach defined by resilience. Despite a Type I Diabetes diagnosis at age 11, Jacob found ways to keep athletics at the forefront of his life. In high school Jacob and his teammates set the 4xMile National Record and won Nike Cross Nationals twice. After finishing his prep career, he went on to compete at the University of Virginia, where he navigated a global pandemic and a coaching change but still remained a top runner in the program.

Now an advocate for those living with Type I Diabetes, Jacob’s experience in his running career makes him the perfect coach for athletes looking to improve despite challenges or busy schedules.

Fun Fact: Is 99% certain that he holds most of the track distance records for athletes with T1 Diabetes

What was the most valuable thing a coach ever taught you?

Jacob: “The most valuable thing a coach ever taught me was to understand that everyone else around you is also deep in the pain cave during a race. This taught me early on to not fixate on how I feel during a race and to not let it take control of my thoughts. Positive thoughts give you that extra last bit of strength during the latter parts of grueling races.”

One on one coaching includes:

  • Tailored training plan to help you reach your running goals.

  • Weekly video call to check in and run you through your training.

  • Unlimited text and email communication, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm MT.
