The Coach Saw What the Training Plan Couldn't
Three runners, three breakthroughs, one common thread.
Three clients we helped the last few years.
Tim was incredible consistent, didn’t miss any training, and did everything coach assigned to him. However, he struggled with racing. Most times he raced, he went out too conservatively, and left too much on the back half so he was always a bit disappointed. Tim’s coach, Reed, picked up on this and started (without even talking about it) to change how they approached training. They started workouts with faster reps every now and then, and then settling back into a more comfortable pace for the rest of the workout. Slowly, the confidence to take on more risk at the start of the race was there. Tim set new personal bests the following races.
On paper, Ryan looked like he had all the tools. He had gotten better with his HS coach, was about to run in college next fall, and loved running. However, after consulting coach Austen, he learned that he was leaving lots on the table mentally. So, Austen started chipping away with his mentality. They worked on race visualization/strategy, how to talk to yourself when it gets tough, and lots more. Ryan had his best cross country season ever.
Ben hadn't run competitively in over 5 years. He was a solid high school runner. But, after many years away from the sport he needed to find a way back in his own journey. He may never be as fast as his high school self, but why can’t he get help reinventing new goals and aspirations. He got to work with coach Drew, and ran his first ever half marathon in 90 minutes, exceeding even his own expectations.

These are many of the stories of HAX clients who have gotten more than just a training plan, out of one on one coaching. If any of this sounds like you, take our coaching quiz today and see who would be a good fit for your run goals.

Also, if you want some really great insights into one of our newest coaches, Austen, he has a great podcast that released today.
